About us

Nicklas Kristiansen is a self-taught abstract artist from Stockholm, Sweden. He began painting during his paternity leave and found an unexpected interest in combining color and form. Since then, more and more people have discovered his large, colorful abstract paintings in acrylic. Nicklas paints abstract art in a handful of different styles and new techniques are developed as time goes by which means that a variety of abstract artworks appear continuously. “The great thing about abstract art or abstract expressionism is that one can experiment during the process of painting with unexpected results. A painting can sometimes be painted a few times before you are completely satisfied. This gives the painting personality and structure. Sometimes you hit a wall and have to put the painting on a break, but the most failed paintings can sometimes be the absolute best ones .. ”Nicklas is represented by NYAgallery in New York where more of his works are available.

What is abstract art, abstract expressionism and contemporary art?
FoKo Art to go has compiled this in a good way. Below are scissors from their website.

Abstract expressionism
This movement originated in America in the 1940s and became popular in the 1950s. Expressionism can be summed up in two main points: freedom in the form of expression and the striving to explore the subconscious. A group of American artists were interested in a way of working that would be able to visualize the expression of the subconscious directly on the canvas. Many artists associated with this art direction worked quickly and painted with unconventional methods, such as pouring or splashing paint directly on the surface, so chance and misfortune would play a significant role in creation. Abstract expressionism was officially recognized in 1951 through an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, called “Abstract Painting and Sculpture in America”. Examples: Willem de Kooning, Barnett Newman, Jackson Pollock, Ad Reinhardt

Abstract art
Abstract art – which does not imitate or directly depict external reality, with the emphasis on personal expression. Some limit the term to apply to non-figurative art only, where no figures or recognizable motifs appear. Behind all abstract art lies the idea that form and color in themselves can influence the viewer to be without imaginative content e.g. numbers or landscape. Often exaggerated or simplified until they become almost unrecognizable. Cubism – the first abstract art style of the 20th century.
